Winter Opening 2021
December 10 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Sunrise Park Resort is officially opening for the 2021/22 season Friday, December 10th, 2021. We will be open from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
Update 11/28/2021 at 3:40pm: Based on weather and challenging snowmaking conditions, we have adjusted our opening date to Friday, December 10th. We will plan to open with Midway and the Bunny Hill and expand to other trails as soon as possible. Additionally, there is hope in the forecast, although it is approximately 9 days out, with snow predicted. Once we open, we will be open daily.
Factors that have played into this. Although there have been pockets of what appears to be cold, we have been met with pretty dramatic inversions throughout the mountain – for example, it may be 27 degrees at the base of Sunrise, as you climb up the mountain just a few hundred feet, the temperature spikes to above 30 degrees. In the case of last evening, we had low 20s at base of Sunrise, and 33 at top of Sunrise.
Another factor that continues to impede our progress is the “wet-bulb temperature,” which is the best measure of snowmaking conditions. This is the combination of the actual air temperature and the amount of moisture in the air. Normal Temperature + Humidity = Wet-Bulb Temperature. Snowmaking is most efficient when the wet-bulb temperature is well below freezing. We have been met with higher humidity levels, forcing the wet bulb to be at/near/above ideal/freezing temperatures.
